Remote Bolivia Fly Fishing Camp on The Secure River #133

ABout this Adventure

The six-guest camp is this groups most remote lodge, perched on the upper reaches of the Secure River. Arrival begins with a short flight to the village of Asunta, where locals often welcome guests, followed by a scenic 15-minute boat ride upriver to the deluxe tented camp.
Accommodations feature double-occupancy safari tents with private bathrooms, hot showers, plush bedding, and ceiling fans. The main hardwood lodge houses an open bar and serves expertly prepared meals paired with fine Argentine wines, making for a great spot for story telling at the end of the day.

Fishing at this camp spans both upstream and downstream waters. Upstream, the river winds through dramatic scenery of moss-covered cliffs and deep green pools, offering outstanding dorado and pacu fishing, accessed via traditional pole-driven dugouts. Downstream, broader channels with scattered woody debris provide excellent wade- and boat-fishing for large dorado, navigated with motorized dugouts.

For adventurous anglers, there is also an offering of custom backpacking excursions to the river’s uppermost stretches, allowing one- or two-night overnight trips tailored to individual preferences.

The Fishing
This remote location provides access to the upper section of the Secure river as well as two small tributaries the Ashahana and the Maniquicito Creeks. This upper section has some extremely large resident Dorado, as well as Paku Moturo Surubi and Yatorana which adds great diversity in a week-long trip.

From the camp you also have great access to the middle section of the river which opens up a bit more allows for more navigation with a powered boat but is dense with debris providing ample spots for Golden Dorado to ambush your fly.

You’ll want to be sure to pack your favorite 8 weight 9 weight and 10 weight rods with lines to match that both float and sink. In addition, you will want to be sure to bring along wire bite shock tip it and fluorocarbon in order to harness your large profile baitfish flies to your leaders securely.

The Accommodations
Built from local timber, the camp blends rustic charm with refined comfort. Guests stay in double-occupancy safari tents with plush beds, full linens, and private bathrooms with showers.

The main lodge hosts meals and cocktails, while modern amenities include generator-backed power, hot water on demand, and Wi-Fi. Argentine chefs create a variety of regional and classic dishes, paired with fine Argentine wines. It is jungle camping with a semi-luxury feel.
