Jurassic Lake North
This Lodge is located on the Northern side of famous Lake Strobel, commonly known as Jurassic Lake. The name Jurassic Lake comes from the size of the rainbows that grow in this lake with superior genetics, fast growth rates, big shoulders and an abundant food source all making for one of the most productive rainbow trout fisheries in the world. This lodge is a sister to the Lodge on the Southern side of the lake and has access to much of the 45,000 acres and incredible leases of shoreline.
The Fishing
Stillwater fishing at its finest. The lake provides endless opportunities to hunt and stalk some of the largest Rainbow Trout in the world. The angler will be met with changing conditions that will challenge the angler to adjust their techniques from Dry Fly fishing to streamer fishing and back again. You will travel with your guide as you fish from one protected cove to another throughout the day.
While staying at this lodge, the angler will have the opportunity to fish moving water in the Rio Barrancoso for a day or two of their week. The river fishing will be located about 1hr+ drive from the lodge. The fishing is very productive for great numbers of small Rainbow Trout consistently. These smaller river resident fish can be a very entertaining day of Dry Fly fishing. During the early and late season when the water might be higher and off color, the opportunity to throw streamers for large Lake run fish is very good.
The Lodge
Perched on the edge of Jurassic Lake, the lodge puts you just steps from some of the world’s most coveted rainbow trout waters. Built for serious anglers, it blends rugged Patagonian charm with thoughtful comfort, ensuring every day on the water is followed by a relaxing, restorative evening.
The main lodge is bright and spacious, with sweeping lake views, a fully stocked fly-tying station, a full bar, and satellite TV for downtime. Its rustic architecture feels at home in the untamed landscape, creating a perfect mix of style and function.
Four comfortable double rooms sit adjacent to the lodge, each with private bathrooms, plush beds, and fresh linens. Additional conveniences include Wi-Fi, satellite phone access, and twice-weekly laundry service, giving you everything you need to focus on fishing, exploring, and enjoying Patagonia.
Jurassic Lake South
The Fishing
This Lodge offers world-class fishing on Lake Strobel (Jurassic Lake) and its private waters. Guests have exclusive access to the Barrancoso River, the only lodge with control of an entire tributary flowing directly into the lake. During October–December and again in March–April, the river stacks up with huge rainbow trout. The lodge owns the land that surrounds both banks through the prime fishing grounds. This is considered by many to be the best piece of trophy Rainbow Trout River in the world.
Anglers can also fish many small lakes on the estancia and over 8 kilometers of Moro Creek. These opportunities will give you solitude and shots at multiple species any day of your stay. On Jurassic Lake itself, guests enjoy private access to more than 20 kilometers of shoreline, including Monster Bay, Moro Bay, The aquarium and Dry Fly Bay all famed for their incredible fish numbers and size. Trout average 7–9 pounds and fish in the 10–20 lb class are seen and caught often.
The Lodging
The lodge sits in the remote Lake Strobel area of Santa Cruz on 45000 acres with additional lakefront property leased. A classic Patagonian estancia that has been transformed into a comfortable fly-fishing base, featuring ten single-occupancy rooms and two double-occupancy rooms, all with private bathrooms and single beds. Hang your waders and gear in the convenient drying room every evening to be sure to start the next day warm and dry.
The spacious living room overlooks Laguna Verde, home to plentiful rainbow and brown trout, and includes a TV with satellite connection, a fully stocked fly-tying desk, and a central bar. Electricity is supplied 24/7 via wind and backup fuel generators, and laundry service is provided twice weekly.
