Premier Saltwater Fly Fishing Experiences- Seychelles #185

ABout this Adventure

The Seychelles represents the absolute frontier of saltwater flats fly fishing—a place where vast, shallow lagoons and remote island systems create some of the most dynamic angling found anywhere in the world. Wading across miles of untouched flats, anglers are immersed in a fishery defined by its raw beauty, isolation, and extraordinary biodiversity.

From luxury land-based lodges to fully equipped live-aboard motherships, every operation is run by highly skilled guides who bring deep local knowledge and a relentless focus on the angling experience. Modern skiffs, top-tier equipment, and a commitment to excellence ensure each day on the water is both productive and seamless.

The diversity here is nothing short of remarkable. Endless schools of bonefish tail across the flats, while anglers also pursue an impressive range of species including various trevally, milkfish, triggerfish, bumphead parrotfish, permit, and a host of other reef and flats fish that thrive in these nutrient-rich waters.

Yet it is the Giant Trevally that defines the Seychelles. Explosive, aggressive, and famously unforgiving, these apex predators offer one of the most adrenaline-fueled experiences in all of fly fishing—an encounter that challenges even the most seasoned anglers and leaves a lasting impression long after the trip ends.

Whichever Trip you choose, you will want to be sure Just show up with all the equipment that you need plus some extra. We suggest bringing nothing smaller than your 9 weight and be sure to have 10wt 11wt and 12 weight rods with you. You will want to be sure to have fluorocarbon in 12# 16# 20# in 9ft and 12ft as well as tippet to match and knottable wire or wired leaders for toothy species. You will need the highest quality saltwater reels with tested drag systems and with fresh quality backing. The sun is intense and not something to be taken lightly. Be sure to pack lightweight sun protective clothes to cover you from head to toe. In addition to that you will need a pair of high quality rugged salt water flats for wading. A couple other items you will not want to be without are high quality polarized sunglasses and some type of a waterproof bag to carry with you daily. You’ll need a vast assortment of flies including standard bonefish shrimp patterns, a wide variety of crab patterns including multiple colors of flexo crab. GT will primarily be large Prof bait fish patterns in a variety of colors from natural 2 Dark. When pursuing the milk fish you will need to have the algae representative patterns.

Cosmoledo Atoll
Cosmoledo Atoll has earned a reputation as one of the most explosive saltwater flats fisheries in the world. Its pristine, untouched ecosystem is defined by vast wadable sand flats, scattered islands of varying shapes and sizes, and a rich, expansive lagoon—an environment dominated by the incomparable Giant Trevally.
With minimal human pressure over the years, Cosmoledo remains remarkably wild and unspoiled. The encounters here reflect that isolation, offering anglers a rare glimpse into a truly intact marine ecosystem and delivering a level of intensity and authenticity that few destinations on the planet can match.

Alphonse Island
The Alphonse Group is widely regarded as one of the premier saltwater fly fishing destinations in the Indian Ocean. Spanning more than 10,000 acres of pristine white sand flats, it offers exceptional wading and truly world-class fishing. The fishery is best known for its remarkable populations of bonefish, alongside an impressive diversity of other species that thrive across its expansive lagoon system. Fishing is available year-round, with certain periods offering more technical and rewarding opportunities for experienced anglers.

Beyond the flats, the surrounding offshore waters open the door to outstanding bluewater action. Dramatic structure and steep drop-offs create ideal conditions for attracting a wide range of pelagic species. Whether targeting fish on the fly or through conventional trolling methods, the variety and quality of offshore fishing further elevate the Alphonse Group as a truly complete angling destination.

Farquhar Atoll
Farquhar Atoll, famed as the home of bumphead parrotfish and “bird-eating” Giant Trevally, is the southernmost atoll in the Seychelles. This remote and expansive system covers approximately 170.5 square kilometers, stretching 18 kilometers from north to south and 9 kilometers from east to west.

At its heart lies a large, ear-shaped lagoon that defines the fishery and provides exceptional access throughout the atoll. Its layout allows for easy skiff navigation to a vast network of flats, channels, and surf zones, creating a diverse and highly productive environment. The combination of accessibility, variety, and sheer abundance makes Farquhar Atoll one of the most unique and rewarding fly fishing destinations in the Indian Ocean

Astove Atoll
Astove Island is a world of vivid color, where the daily rhythms of a pristine ocean ecosystem unfold in full view. Remote and largely unchanged over time, it offers a rare window into one of the most untouched marine environments on the planet.
Often described as an underwater Grand Canyon, the famed Astove Wall is the atoll’s defining feature. Here, expansive shallow flats meet a dramatic reef edge that drops almost vertically, plunging from ankle-deep water to depths exceeding a kilometer within a remarkably short distance.

This extraordinary contrast creates a truly unique fishery, where the interface between shallow and deep water produces some of the most exciting and dynamic fishing opportunities found anywhere in the world.

Providence Atoll
Like many of the remote Seychelles atolls, Providence Atoll is a true fly fishing wilderness. Its vast flats, extensive lagoon system, and network of feeder channels provide anglers the chance to explore 345 km² of pristine sand flats, turtle grass banks, surf zones, and lagoon edges, all teeming with a remarkable diversity of species.

On these waters, anglers can sight cast to Giant Trevally, bumphead parrotfish, triggerfish, bluefin trevally, milkfish, Indo-Pacific permit, Napoleon wrasse, bonefish, grouper, snapper, barracuda, and many more. Beyond the flats, Providence is also celebrated for its offshore game fishing, offering outstanding opportunities for sailfish and yellowfin tuna.

Amirante Islands
The Amirante Islands—comprising Étoile, D’Arros, Marie Louise, Desnoeufs, Boudeuse, African Banks, Rémire Reef, and Poivre Atoll—remain largely uninhabited despite being discovered in 1503. Their seclusion and pristine environment make them a highly sought-after destination for fly fishing, particularly for Indo-Pacific permit, as well as for world-class offshore fishing.

These atolls feature shallow lagoons bordered by reefs and flats, which emerge with the tides, creating diverse and dynamic fishing terrain. Just beyond, dramatic drop-offs plunge from 60 to 12,000 meters within mere kilometers, generating strong currents and sustaining one of the healthiest marine ecosystems in the region. This combination of structure, depth, and biodiversity makes the Amirantes a premier bluewater fishing destination in the Seychelles

Platte Islands
Platte Island, named for its flat profile, is a small, remote island situated 130 km south of Mahé. It remained largely uninhabited until the construction of the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in 2023. Recognized as a pseudo-atoll, Platte lacks a traditional lagoon but features a barrier reef that forms a lagoon-like environment along its western side.

The barrier reef extends 7.4 kilometers in length and 1 kilometer in width, providing extensive wadeable flats. Beyond this, the submerged reef system, dotted with scattered pancake flats, offers ideal habitat for ambush predators such as Giant Trevally and grouper, making Platte Island a highly productive and exciting destination for saltwater fly fishing.
