Andros Island- Bonefish Capital of the World- Bahamas #94

ABout this Adventure

Andros is known as the “Bonefish Capital of the World” because of the large schools of bonefish and the large sizes not found in other competing bonefish areas. Other species found include tarpon, permit, crevalle jack, snook, and barracuda. There is also spearfishing, reef, and deep-blue fishing, where you will find snapper, redfish, grouper, and other species.

Bonefishing On Andros Island
The Lodge offers ideal Bahamas fishing vacations. The lodge is uniquely positioned on Mangrove Cay for easy access to either the South Bight or fabled Middle Bight of Andros. The Middle and North Bights separate Mangrove Cay from North Andros. The South Bight separates Mangrove Cay from South Andros. This central location makes Mangrove Cay the ideal place to fish due to the versatility of sites easily reached. The Bights are a complex network of channels, islands, flats, reef and deeper cuts, a rare wilderness and the ideal habitat for numerous sea-life – a superb, healthy ecosystem and the perfect environment for big bonefish!

The lodge has handpicked the best local independent guides who know just the spot for the wind and tide conditions. This region of Andros is known for resident schools of Bonefish that are accessible in almost all-weather conditions. Mangrove Cay is also a great starting point to go on the search for larger trophy Bonefish when the conditions are appropriate.

They also have a wade-able bonefish flat right off our beach if you’d like to spend a day lounging on the beach and challenging yourself to catch a bonefish without a guide. (These fish will present a challenge)

Deep Sea Fishing
Just outside the Andros Barrier Reef the water depth rapidly drops to 6,000 feet, perfect conditions for large pelagic game fish such as wahoo, dolphin fish, tuna and billfish. Depending on the season, you can expect fast action on any number of these species. You’ll be fishing aboard a 24 foot, twin engine center console catamaran which will meet you at the dock on the south of the island. Trolling, spinning the reef edge or chumming the AUTEC buoys all produce results. Tackle is provided or you can bring your own but if you want to fly fish you will need your own 10# plus gear and flies.

Reef Fishing
The Andros Barrier Reef is one of the largest coral reefs in the world. It stretches 140 miles long and lies less than one mile from shore in most places. When fishing on the reef with our local guides, our guests typically catch yellow tail snapper, Nassau grouper, triggerfish, barracuda, reef sharks and porgy.
