Here is a long review by a 2024 client:
“This is my 33rd fishing trip to Manitoba and 18th lodge visited. We were the first group in for this season. Other than being very cold and rainy it was a great trip. Nothing has changed since our first visit in 2019. In my opinion this is the best overall lodge in Manitoba. There are so many different ways that this lodge is superior to others but let me try and highlight a few. The cabins are immaculate and appear brand new. Ours had two bedrooms each with a mini split heater and AC and a living room with a fireplace. There was also a screened in porch. A short walk to the main lodge which houses the dining room and the bar. The bar is unusual in that it includes a happy hour before dinner where the drinks are free. At most lodges I have fished the groups tend to keep to themselves. One impact of the happy hour is that most groups become very friendly. Secret spots and lures are shared freely and you make new friends. We have already made contact we people we met at the lodge and are making plans to meet again next year.
On to the food. Most lodges have a fixed breakfast. You can order whatever you want for breakfast. The shore lunches were also unique. The lodge has prepared several sites throughout the lake with picnic benches, metal roofing to protect from the rain, propane cook tops and chopped wood for the open fires. This not only keeps you dry and comfortable but dramatically reduced the food preparation and cooking time. The lunches themselves are not just the old fried fish but included different variety of batters and baked fish. Dinner at the lodge was also special every night. Julie cooked for us a few nights and she is the best chef in Canada. One night we had a pork chop that must have been 2 inched thick but was still moist and tender. Steak night rivaled any steak house in Winnipeg,
The staff were also exceptional. The owners unlike many other lodges are on site. This ensures that if any issues arise, they are dealt with quickly and properly, They have hired a great group of young ladies to work the dining room and cabins. They are friendly and hard working. The guides are also good. They tend to hire young men in college who work there for4 to 6 years so you always have an experienced guide who knows the lake in your group. The newer ones receive formal training and also learn from the more experienced guides.
The fishing is also good. The boats are newer16 – 18-foot Lunds powered by 60HP Yamaha motors. They have very comfortable cushioned chairs, depth finders, live wells and trolling motors. Most lodges have boats with 20 or 30HP engines, benches and no electronics You can really cover a lot of ground quickly with these 60 HP motors! It was very cold (low 40’s) and rainy during our trip which impacted the fishing. However we still managed to catch several pike on the low 40s and had an afternoon during which we caught walleye over 22 inches for 3 hours straight. I made the “century club” by catching 4 walleyes totaling over 100 inches in the same day. We can’t wait to return next year!”
THE FISHING: Spring Bite: In the spring, anglers have the best opportunity to catch the “Big 3″ – walleye, northern pike, and lake trout. Spring walleye fishing is fantastic, since the walleye are regaining their appetite after a long winter of lethargy, but pike and lake trout are also voracious early in the season. Walleye and pike are often competing for both food and warm water and can be found together, as they all try to find the warmest waters where many of the baitfish are hanging out. The River, which flows in and out of the Lake, is a great spawning and transition area. There is a lot of river fishing at this time of year, with the most popular spot being called the Honeyhole. Lake trout, which prefer the coldest waters in the lake, are free to roam the entire water column in the spring. They can be caught by jigging or trolling spoons & cranks in 15-40 feet of water. Make sure that you don’t miss the spring walleye fishing!
Mid to late-summer patterns: Beginning in July, the water will have sufficiently warmed for the thermocline to set in. This makes for some of the best walleye fishing, since the Walleye begin to congregate on main lake reefs and humps. They generally start out in 12-15 feet of water, and as the thermocline gets pushed deeper by the warming water the fish follow suit. Walleye are generally found in about 25 feet of water by late July, and 32-35 feet of water in September. A most trusted presentation is the jig & minnow, but they are also susceptible to bottom bouncers, spinner rigs, or deep-trolling crankbaits. Your guides are well-versed in the many techniques that can produce great fish. In the summertime, pike up to 30” can still be found in the shallow bays for those interested in casting the bays or fly-fishing. That said, all of the larger trophy fish have left the bays to go and find the deeper, cooler waters of the main lake. Although it is no longer a numbers game, impressive trophy pike can be caught with some trolling patterns and a bit of patience
THE ACCOMODATIONS: Log craftsmanship is nothing short of incredible. The owners are continuously improving the cabins and lodge in order to make your experience one that makes you feel right at home. From their modern two-person suites; to their luxurious chalets; and private Mini-lodge across the lake; or even the serenity of their outpost cabin on Lost Lake; they will ensure that your choice exceeds expectations.
Their amazing luxury cabins are appropriately called the “Boardwalk” cabins. They are a great complement for their already successful “Park Place” cabins! Their dynamic bedroom design allows for either a king size bed or singles. The first thing people notice about the Boardwalk Chalets is their sheer size. They are just shy of 1,000 square feet each! They sleep from 4 to 6 people very comfortably. Inside, they feature two bedrooms, a separate washroom and shower room, a spacious living room, and a screened-in porch with a beautiful view of the lake. The sleeping arrangement is very unique. Each bedroom has the option for sleeping arrangements – either three single beds, or a single bed and a king-size bed. One of the best features that some of their guests will really appreciate is that this cabin has air conditioning. Easily control the temperature in the cabin so that you may relax comfortably, regardless of outside conditions!
Internet Access- The two Boardwalk Chalets are equipped with hook-ups for laptops that enable high-speed access to the internet. That means you can keep up to date with stock quotes, market news, e-mails for business, or best of all e-mailing a jealous friend a picture of yourself with a huge Master Angler fish! There is also free wireless internet access throughout the peninsula.

WHAT CUSTOMERS ARE SAYING:
“It exceeded any expectation I had to the point that I’ve told my kids that if I get a bonus that’s exactly where we’re going. When you compare it against other luxury vacations, where you typically pay extra for a guide or various excursions, what you get is a really good value. I’ve fished all over the world, from Alaska to Colorado to Costa Rica. I’d put this experience over those in terms of the size fish you can catch and the quantity. ” Maria ,Florida
“They say “you get what you pay for” … here you get more. They know what they’re doing, and it shows. Its called “The Experience.” The lodging is top notch. The food is outrageous! The lake is a dream to fish. The staff – how they find and keep so many polite, friendly, courteous, intelligent, and attentive people year after year I have no idea. They learn your likes and dislikes; they make you feel welcome and relaxed.” Steven J ,Loveland, Colorado
“People sometimes want to try new locations or lakes in Canada but I really do not know why our group would ever look elsewhere or even think about it. The fishing is world class and the accommodations and hospitality are five-star.”
Gene ,Omaha, Nebraska
Most guests arrive in Winnipeg through the James Richardson International Airport. Visitors from Chicago, Denver, Toronto, and Minneapolis can catch any of the daily direct flights to Winnipeg. One advantage is its close proximity to Winnipeg. This enables anyone traveling from North America to get to the lodge in one day. Generally, this means no overnight stays in Winnipeg. If you are flying, there is an Airport Limousine Service that can bring you to Silver Falls, Manitoba. It is a 90-minute drive from the Winnipeg Airport. For those who decide to drive, you can make your way directly to Silver Falls, MB. If need be, you stay at the Papertown Motor Inn in Pine Falls, Mb. Only 10 minutes from the float base.
